Good question! I think dating apps mostly just borrow the ranking system from this algorithm. They then follow it to suggest potential matches but they can't force people to say yes/no according to the optimal setup. I'm assuming this makes the problem of lopsided groups become less of an issue. Unfortunately, these companies have a strong incentive to not make their exact methods public :/
